Background History:

The Hong Kong Museum of History (HKMH) originated in the City Hall Art Gallery and Museum.
It was founded in 1962 and was renamed the City Museum and Art Gallery in 1969.
In 1975, it was split into the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Museum of History. The latter was initially housed in rented premises in Star House, Tsim Sha Tsui.
In 1983, it was relocated to a temporary site in Kowloon Park.
In 1998 to Present, it was moved to its present premises on Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Purpose of the project:

After the audio replacement renovation, the venue now delivers high-quality speech intelligibility and with clear well-balanced music throughout the exhibition area. The system is a fully scalable network-audio ecosystem, featuring discreet, museum-appropriate speaker placement that blends seamlessly with the space.

Dante-enabled PoE speakers are being deployed in both Phase 1 (Multifaceted Hong Kong Exhibition Series) and Phase 2 (‘Hong Kong Story’ Exhibition) to support future expansion and long-term growth of the audio infrastructure.

Schedule:

Phase 1: From 27 November 2024 to 6 July 2026

Galleries 1: Yau Tsim Mong – Urban Transition & Community

Focus: Enhancing cultural & historical storytelling with immersive audio effect.

The Audac Dante Mini Stereo Power Amplifier (AMP203) is compact, features a Dante™/AES67 digital audio input and a convection-cooled enclosure technology.

In the diagram above, the power amplifier is hidden because it is installed inside the TV cabinet. The video clip presents cultural and historical storytelling with an immersive audio effect. Its compact size makes it ideal for this application.

The SoundTube IPD pendant speaker (IPD-RS82-EZ-BK) is an 8-inch, 2-way, IP-addressable, Dante-enabled PoE speaker installed on the high ceiling to provide surrounding sound coverage. It features story snapshots that highlight tales of daily life in Hong Kong’s Portuguese community.

In other scenarios as well, the SoundTube IPD pendant speaker (IPD-RS82-EZ-BK) is deployed, as shown in the figure, to showcase the local urban transition and light atmosphere through accompanying audio effects in Yau Tsim Mong District.

The SoundTube IPD surface-mount speaker (IPD-SM82-EZ-II-BK) is an 8-inch, 2-way IP addressable and Dante-enabled PoE speaker with weather resistant protection. Installed on the high ceiling, it achieves a wide and well-dispersed sound coverage effect to showcase the St. Teresa’s Church history.

The SoundTube 20-inch Stereo Dual-Parabolic Speaker with Clear Dome (FP6020-II) is a sound-focusing speaker that uses the patented ZeroReflection™ enclosure technology to deliver accurate sound reproduction. It has an audio-focused capability to implement a variety of offline marketing promotions, such as POP displays, digital signage, trade shows, and so on.

After installing these speakers in one of the indoor exhibition halls, visitors can stand at the intended listening position and clearly hear the audio about “Sojourning in Gold Mountain toward Hong Kong & Chinese Diaspora in California” without being disturbed or affected by nearby people.

Project Overview:

Phase 2: Introduced ‘Hong Kong Story’ Four Main Themes in total 10 galleries at G/F

Project initiated: Early 2026

Focus: Through immersive historical settings, the exhibition vividly brings to life the resilience of the Hong Kong people and their deep-rooted ties with the motherland.

A few decades ago, street signage was everywhere throughout Hong Kong, especially in busy urban district areas, creating a prosperous city and bustling atmosphere.

The 8-inch, 2-way IP addressable and Dante-enabled PoE speaker with weather resistant protection SoundTube IPD surface-mount speaker (IPD-SM82-EZ-II-BK) is shown in this ‘Hong Kong Story’ theme again. Using this speaker, visitors can sit at the counter to play some interactive games such as making the Chinese cuisine food, while musical interactions enhance the experience and highlight the distinctive charm of local traditional with nostalgic-style tea restaurants.
